Letter from Gumby

Welcome to Heroes Martial Arts!

My name is Alan “Gumby” Marques and I love the grappling martial arts.  I believe that the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and the friends and connections I’ve made through the years because of it have greatly enriched my life.

I have had the opportunity to travel the world in pursuit and in service of the art I love and have been afforded a great many opportunities, but always felt that my truly happiest hours have been spent on the mat.  The dojo has been a more than a second home to me, and the people I’ve trained with are like family to me.  There are a great many possibilities afforded to me, but what I truly enjoy most are the personal interactions within the academy.

Now that I have the opportunity to open my own Academy, I wanted to do so in a way that elevated Jiu Jitsu to the levels that I believe it deserves. So I started off with the decision to dedicate my academy specifically on the grappling arts.  In addition to my own expertise in Jiu Jitsu, we’ve sought out like minded individuals in the fraternal arts of Judo and Wrestling for instruction.  We’ve set up a world-class facility, where the first emphasis is building better students and giving them room to grow.  And we’ve managed to attract an excellent student body so far, where everyone is both dedicated and friendly.

Heroes Martial Arts is a dream come true for me.  It is my hope that at this academy others can achieve their dreams and goals as well.

See you on the mat soon!

Jason T"Super clean academy. It amazes me after rolling for hours my white gi is still as white as when I first brought it in. Gumby is patient and a great instructor. All the other instructors and classmates are also extremely helpful and easy going. No egos!
