Nicholas"First off, Gumby (Alan Marques) is a highly skilled black belt under Ralph Gracie who actually teaches 95% of the classes. He is an incredibly gifted Jiu Jitsu instructor who's whole life revolves around Jiu Jitsu, his students, and Heroes Martial Arts. The facility is HUGE with endless amounts of mat space and not to mention it is kept up very well. The students who are part of Heroes truly take after their head instructor. They are dedicated, eager to learn, eager to push each other to higher levels, and a complete pleasure to train with. Not to mention, a bunch of really strong skill sets throughout all belt levels. Simply put, Heroes is an amazing to place to train"

Chris O"I finally got the opportunity to visit Heroes and Gumby runs an excellent program! His instruction is clear with exceptional detail. Whether your are a brand new martial artist or a seasoned fighter,  you will definitely have the ability to reach your maximum potential with Gumby. His facility is clean with plenty of space. The guys in the gym are very welcoming (no meatheads and egos are checked at the door). Get your Jiu Jitsu"

David B."Best martial arts academy that I have ever trained at. Great instruction, awesome people, no egos, and clean gym.  What else can you ask for? Very relaxed attitude and family like attitude. Stop by and check it"

Nick G."This is a great place for beginner to advance students in BJJ. A lot of great things have happened to this place, such as the expansion of additional mats, the improvement and development in the current students, and the curriculum of the classes. Gumby is a well rounded teacher and does have a good grasp of teaching different students in effective methods that caters to their areas of strength and weaknesses.  I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in the art (for competition, stress relief, fitness,"

Jason T"Super clean academy. It amazes me after rolling for hours my white gi is still as white as when I first brought it in. Gumby is patient and a great instructor. All the other instructors and classmates are also extremely helpful and easy going. No egos! Super chill but at the same time offers great structure. 7 days a week blackbelt instruction it really doesn't get any better than heroes! Come check it "

Tom G."I have my training home but Gumby is a friend of my instructor and I have been fortunate to have trained with him in the past.  So when he opened his own place I had to check it out.  Its a good workout, the instruction is top notch and the facility is airy and wide open. If I needed to find a new training spot I would put Heroes at the top of my"

Joey R"Being new to BJJ, I found an awesome introduction to it in a very welcoming atmosphere at Heroes. Very well instructed through Gumby and Mike. Still a novice but have already noticed changes such as generally feeling better mentally and having more energy. Central Downtown SJ, it couldn’t be in a better spot.  "

DDN"This is the next generation of academies no longer are academies confined to hidden industrial parks, this academy is in an amazing prime downtown location that looks like it would be suited for an art gallery. Which does fit since the head instructor Alan (Gumby) Marques keeps a strong focus on the pure gentile art we know as Jiu-Jitsu. Gumby is an incredibly patient instructor whose mellow demeanor offers students excellent instruction. But don’t let Gumby’s mellow demeanor fool ya he will put it on ya, he is a fierce competitor who is well respected in the BJJ world.  In short Heroes is SIC!  "

Here’s why Heroes is the the complete package in my humble opinion. Instructors: Gumby’s teachings are easy to follow and he happily answers any questions if you still can’t figure out a move. He preaches simple, effective techniques during the introductory classes and divides the larger classes up based on skill level so the more experienced players get what they need. Students: In two words…. hella chill. No crazy egos or tough guys Facility: top of the line mats, gorgeous aesthetics (vaulted ceilings, birck lined walls), brand new showers/bathrooms. If you’ve ever wanted to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I definitely recommend checking this academy out.   "
