Fundamentals Week One Upon Us!

We’re at the start of our Fundamentals Rotation this week at Heroes Martial Arts.  Good time to brush up on the basics even if you’re an advanced student, and if you’ve been thinking about trying us out or bringing a friend, there couldn’t be a more excellent time to get on the mat!

March 6 11:00 AM:  Fundamentals Class #2 Posture
March 7 6:00 PM:  Fundamentals Class #2 Posture

March 8th 11:00 AM: Fundamentals Class #3 Attacking from the Guard
March 9th 6:00 PM:  Fundamentals Class #3 Attacking from the Guard

But where is Fundamentals Class #1 You might be asking yourself?  The first Fundamentals Class is the very first class a new student would take regardless of what point in the schedule you decide to try out Heroes Martial Arts.  After participating in your first class in the regular Fundamentals schedule, you will be pulled aside and given the first class by one of the senior instructors on in a private or semi-private setting.

Out full fundamentals program is available here:

You can always find out what class is being taught on our updated calendar here:

Our Fundamentals program is both what makes Heroes Martial Arts very accommodating to new students, while at the same time makes us very strong!

See you on the mat!

Five New Blue Belts!

This week Heroes Martial Arts had a big week as five of the team received there well deserved promotions to Blue Belt!  (The most promotions ever in such a short time at Heroes!

Paul Telles has been stepping up his game and the hard work has been paying dividends.  He shows his technique and heart every time he gets on the mat.

Julius Go has been putting in a lot of work and has consistently been turning in great performances at both the academy and on the competition circuit.

To distinguish Kristoffer Belau from the crowd of Chris’s at Heroes (Chris and Kris sound exactly the same) he was given the nickname “Lumberjack”, and promptly began shaving before every class.  Kris’s guard is known around for the academy for his dangerous guard.

Chris Nguyen has been a mainstay at Heroes since we opened up and is more often than not the last person to leave the mat.  He’s really a gentle soul, unless he’s trying to Darce you!

Vincent Racelo has also been a mainstay at Heroes since we opened up.  With an aw shucks attitude he’ll quietly accept any challenge thrown his way and excel.  Vincent’s judo is also gotten very good as well!

Congratulation guys!  The team just keeps growing stronger!

Daniel Lin to Blue Belt

He enters quietly.  He seemingly vanishes into the night.  But before you know it, the damage has been done.

Okay, so comparing Daniel to a ninja might be a bit far fetched (although it’s been whispered before).  To say that Daniel is tough, technical and willing to match up against anyone would be completely accurate however.  And so Daniel has been promoted to blue belt.

Congratulations Daniel!

Nick Greene going to Abu Dhabi!

Big news for one of our teammates, Nick Greene won the Abu Dhabi Pro Qualifiers and is going to Abu Dhabi!

The Abu Dhabi Pro Qualfiers were held in Las Vegas on January 29 and the lure of competition and prizes brought the Heroes team in force!

Nick Greene took third in his division, but that was enough to qualify him for the over 163 pound absolute.  This was were the true war was going to be, because the combined champions of the white and blue belt divisions were going to be battling it out for an all expenses paid trip to Abu Dhabi to compete on the world stage.  Nick actually loses a tough match in the first round, but his opponent was hurt and could not continue so Nick advanced.  Nick made the most of his opportunity, shutting down his next two opponents before getting a the referee’s decision in the final match in a very tight match.  Nick Greene thus earned his place on the podium, and furthermore was the lightest competitor in the medals!

Congrats to Nick!  Now the hard work comes in the continued preparation for the World Championships!
